Democratic Candidate For Iowa Governor Proposes Minimum Wage Hike, No Response Yet From Opponent
(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa’s Democratic candidate for governor says he wants to see the minimum wage increase by almost five dollars. Under a proposal pitched by Rob Sand, Iowa’s minimum wage would increase from $7.25 to $ 12 per hour. He says the rate has remained flat since 2008. Sand believes phasing in the increase will help businesses absorb the costs, and the increase would help employers retain workers longer. His Republican opponent, Zach Lahn has not yet responded to a request for comment.
Iowa Libertarian Party Chooses New Candidates For Lieutenant Governor, Third Congressional District
(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa Libertarian Party has selected new candidates for Lieutenant Governor and Iowa’s Third Congressional District. The party chose Charles Aldrich to be its Lieutenant Governor candidate, following the withdrawal of Nicholas Gluba’s running mate, Jules Cutler. Cutler says she is dealing with PTSD tied to previously living in the former Soviet Union. Last month, a judge ruled that Cutler was disqualified from the ballot over improperly filed paperwork. The party also selected Jacob Heard as its new candidate in Iowa’s Third Congressional District. Former candidate Marco Battaglia ended his campaign in late July following a medical emergency. A judge had also ruled that Battaglia would not appear on the ballot in November, since he didn’t file under his legal name.
Iowa State Fair Looking For Replacement For Friday Grandstand Act Following Rod Stewart Cancellation
(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa State Fair is scrambling after Friday headliner Rod Stewart canceled his next four weeks of tour dates due to a health issue. The rocker has announced he is canceling the next four weeks of his farewell tour. The Fair is trying to find a replacement with less than two days’ notice. Iowa State Fair CEO Jeremy Parsons said Friday’s replacement Grandstand show will probably be free. Refunds will be issued for the canceled Rod Stewart show.
Public Asked To Help Find Missing Des Moines Man
(Des Moines, IA) — The public is being asked to help find a missing, endangered Des Moines man. Police say Jadon Ryan has cognitive disabilities that may prevent him from caring for himself. The 22-year-old was last seen Monday in downtown Des Moines near the DART Central Station. Police say he does not have a phone with him. Anyone with information about Ryan is asked to call 9-1-1.
