(Des Moines) The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Western Iowa until 10:00 a.m. today.
There is a slight (Level 2 of 5) risk for severe thunderstorms this morning. The primary threat is damaging wind gusts. Isolated instances of large hail and heavy rain are also possible.
More severe storm and heavy rainfall chances exist tonight (overnight) into Thursday morning, and Thursday evening into Friday morning, with additional thunderstorm chances into the weekend.
Hazy skies and warm, humid conditions continue today. The heat index will peak near 100°F in southern and portions of central Iowa this afternoon and evening. Slightly cooler weather is then forecast from Thursday onward.
