BCLUW Principal, Child Killed in Dubuque County Crash
(Dubuque County, IA) — An Iowa school principal has died following a weekend crash in Dubuque County. The B-C-L-U-W Community School District says 33-year-old Josh Tack died from injuries he suffered in a crash involving a UTV and a vehicle Saturday night. Tack was the principal of the district’s junior and senior high school. A 10-year-old child was also killed in the crash, and five others were seriously injured and taken to area hospitals.
Libertarian Candidate For Lt. Governor Withdraws From Race
(Des Moines, IA) — The Libertarian candidate for Iowa governor needs a new running mate. Nicholas Gluba [[GLUE-ba]] confirms his lieutenant governor candidate, Jules Cutler, is withdrawing from the race. Gluba says Cutler, who lived in the former Soviet Union, is dealing with P-T-S-D tied to that political system, and says she feels it’s too familiar here. Last month, a judge ruled Cutler was disqualified from the ballot over improperly filed paperwork. The party will choose her replacement tomorrow.
Des Moines Nonprofit to Convert Two Extended Stay Hotels into Supportive Housing
(Des Moines, IA) — Two former extended stay hotels in two Des Moines suburbs will soon be renovated into permanent, supportive housing. Greater Des Moines Supportive Housing CEO Emily Osweiler [[ OSS-why-lurr ]] says the organization has closed on the hotels, one in Urbandale and one in West Des Moines. Construction and renovations are set to begin in the fall, including community spaces and recreational areas. The projects are expected to be complete late next year.
Senator Chuck Grassley Of Iowa Is Eulogizing His Family’s 50-Year-Old Vacuum, Beth
(New Hartford, IA) — It’s the end of an era for Chuck Grassley and his wife, Barbara. Their vacuum cleaner, Beth, has died after nearly 50 years with the family. Grassley Communications Director Clare Slattery re-released a video clip of Senator Grassley cleaning the carpet with Beth for the family Thanksgiving dinner in 2023. A new photo Sunday shows Grassley holding the black, burned, melted plug for the vacuum. He posted on his X account, “Goodbye Beth, you have been a real workhorse, I will miss u.” The vacuum was Grassley’s mother-in-law’s for 15 years before serving the Senator and his wife for 34 more. Beth was a Hoover Concept Two.
