Iowa Secretary of State’s Office Hosting Poll Worker Recruitment Webinar Wednesday
(Des Moines, IA) — Tomorrow is National Poll Worker Recruitment Day, and the state is hoping to bring in more poll workers ahead of November. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says finding poll workers for all of Iowa’s 16-hundred precincts can be a tall order, so his office works in advance to find people willing to take a shift. The Secretary of State’s Office will host a free webinar on Wednesday at 11 a.m. for those interested in becoming a poll worker. (Des Moines, IA) — IPERS’ new CEO will take over in two weeks. Governor Reynolds appointed Martin Noven, the former Executive Director of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System. He’ll take over the position August 24th. Noven is replacing former Greg Samorajski, who resigned from the post in May after being placed on paid administrative leave due to allegations of misconduct.

(Des Moines, IA) — Products from Iowa brands will soon be sold at the Des Moines International Airport. Hudson, whose stores are in almost 90 airports and tourist spots in North America, announced it will open River and Grand by Hudson in the airport’s new terminal. The retailer says products from brands like RAYGUN, BLK and Bold, Brown Dogs Farm and Clear Creek Orchard will be sold at the store. Hudson will also create an apparel collection celebrating pillars of Iowa sports like Caitlin Clark and the Field of Dreams. The new terminal is set to open in January 2027.

(Ankeny, IA) — An Ankeny nurse is charged with failing to comply with an order from the Iowa Board of Nursing. The Board says 35-year-old Rachel Blair has a history of disciplinary sanctions related to alleged sexual misconduct and misappropriating drugs. It’s unclear what led to the new charge, but Blair was reportedly working as a nurse in Urbandale when the conduct occurred. A hearing is scheduled for January.

(Des Moines, IA) — We’re just days away from the Iowa State Fair, and if you’re making plans to attend, you know parking and traffic can get tricky. Traffic control around the fairgrounds is done by Des Moines Police. Sergeant Paul Parizek suggests leaving your car at home and using DART shuttles instead. The DART shuttle leaves the 7th and Center Street parking garage and the Iowa State Capitol Building, with round-trip tickets costing three dollars. A new free shuttle option will also be available this year at Southridge Mall. The 2026 Iowa State Fair kicks off this Thursday, August 13.
