(Fort Dodge) A 45-year-old Bayard, Iowa, man has been arrested following an altercation outside a Fort Dodge convenience store Saturday night.
According to a press release from the Fort Dodge Police Department, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call at approximately 10:55 p.m. Saturday, August 8, reporting an altercation between two males outside the Star Convenience Store at 1601 Fifth Avenue South.
Fort Dodge Police officers and Webster County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, where they found 18-year-old Dawson D. Skoland Rattray of Fort Dodge suffering from a laceration to his right arm.
Witnesses told officers the suspect had fled before authorities arrived. Officers provided aid to Skoland Rattray until the Fort Dodge Fire Department arrived. He was transported by ambulance and later Life Flighted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. His injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
The Fort Dodge Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division assisted patrol officers with the investigation. The scene was processed, and witnesses were interviewed.
As the investigation continued, officers received information about the possible location of the suspect. Officers responded to the location and detained the suspect without incident.
As a result of the investigation, 45-year-old David J. Richman of Bayard, Iowa, was arrested and charged with Assault Causing Serious Injury, a Class D felony.
Richman is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
