(Atlantic) Atlantic firefighters will continue a decades-long tradition of supporting families affected by muscular dystrophy, ALS and related neuromuscular diseases during this year’s AtlanticFest.
Atlantic Fire Chief Tom Cappel said members of Atlantic Fire and Rescue will participate in the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Fill the Boot fundraiser Saturday, August 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Firefighters will be stationed throughout AtlanticFest with boots in hand, collecting donations from pedestrians, motorists and shoppers.
Since 1954, firefighters across the country have raised more than $720 million through Fill the Boot to support MDA research and care. Those contributions have helped fuel advancements in medical research, including more than 30 FDA-approved treatments for neuromuscular diseases since 2015.
Community members can support the cause by visiting firefighters at AtlanticFest or making an online donation through the Fill the Boot campaign.
