(Fort Dodge, IA) — The U.S. Secretary of Education visited Iowa Tuesday to announce a milestone in the new Workforce Pell Grant program.
Speaking Tuesday at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Linda McMahon said that the school’s EMT program is the first in the nation to be approved for the WPG program. It allows low-income students and those with prior bachelor’s degrees to apply for financial assistance to attend accelerated job training programs.
McMahon says pell grant holders can be fast tracked into the workforce.
To qualify for Workforce Pell, a program must meet rigorous earnings, job placement, and completion benchmarks; have been in operation for at least one year; and receive approval from both the Governor and the Secretary of Education.
