(Anita, IA) — The 1A playoffs begin tonight with a doubleheader in Anita — game one is AHSTW versus Audubon with CAM facing Riverside in the nightcap, coverage of both games on KSOM.
In Game One, the Vikings are 13-11 and trying to beat Audubon for the third time this season. AHSTW won 7-0 and 8-3 during their conference games — Head Coach Trey Brix does not want his team to take the Wheelers lightly because its not easy to beat a three times in a season
Brix will not tip his hand on his starting pitcher — there are three candidates for the job: Sophomore Camdyn Dresen is 5-2 with a 4.16 ERA; 8th grader Taylen Hansen is 3-4 with a 3.54 ERA and Freshman Kip Lamp is 3-0 with a 3.19 ERA. Brix has faith in any of them on the bump
Senior Cash Freeman leads the offense for AHSTW, batting .329 with 20 RBI — the Vikings have one of the best defensive teams in the Western Iowa Conference with a fielding percentage of .936 — Hansen only has 4 errors playing mostly at shortstop. Brix says the key to tonight is whoever is the starter needs to put the ball over the plate
Audubon is 5-15 — they beat Missouri Valley 13-5 a week ago before losing two close games to CAM and Earlham. They did not have much success against the Vikings this year but are 22-14 against AHSTW in the last 15 years. Head Coach Eric Borkowski hopes the third time is the charm tonight
Borkowski also will not reveal his starter and while Senior Brody Schultes (0-6, 7.10) is an option, it is more than likely going to be one of the Miller brothers. They are both 8th graders with Dawson at 2-0 and a 1.77 ERA and Dalton at 1-3 and a 2.69 ERA
Dawson leads the hitting with a .419 average and 11 RBI –Borkowski says the keys tonight offensively is get on base, limit strikeouts and make contact
Game time is 3:00 pm this afternoon, coverage on 96.5 FM, KSOM.
