(Atlantic, IA) — 12th ranked Atlantic softball played two games on Saturday and lost to Class 1A #4 Exira EHK Audubon 2-1 while beating Class 2A #7 Riverside 10-0.
In the first game, Riley Miller of the Spartans had a no hitter until the 4th when Peyton McLaren got a leadoff single; Claire Schroder bunted her to 2nd base and McLaren would score on a mistake by the Spartans to make it 1-0.
In the top of the 5th, Bryli Petersen and Brooklyn Brabham each got one out walks and Jordan Mulford tied the game with a RBI single to left. Brabham stole third and Taryn Petersen hit a grounder to short to score Brabham for what turned out to be the game winning run.
Atlantic threatened in the bottom of the 7th when London Kirchhoff got a leadoff double; Jillian Saathoff then singled but Kirchhoff was thrown out at home; Miller would strike out 2 of the final 3 batters to end the game.
Miller finished with a complete game, allowing just one unearned run on 4 hits, walking 3 and struck out 7. Exira EHK Audubon is now 6-1 and will host Missouri Valley on Monday, coverage on KSOM.
In the 2nd game, the Trojans struck for 8 runs in the bottom of the first against Riverside as Claire Schroder got a RBI single, Peyton McLaren got a bases loaded walk, Jillian Saathoff got a RBI base hit, Schroder would score on a sac fly and Lila Wiederstein had the big blast, a grand slam home run to left.
Wiederstein went 3-3 including her 2nd home run of the season
McLaren got the win for Atlantic with a two hit shutout with two strikeouts and walked none. The Trojans are now 9-2 on the season.
Madison Kelley went 2-2 for the Bulldogs who fell to 2-4 on the season.
