Sentencing Today For Former DMPS Superintendent, Federal Prosecutors Ask For 3 Years
(Des Moines, IA) — Former Des Moines Public Schools superintendent Ian Roberts is scheduled to be sentenced today. Roberts pleaded guilty to one count of making a false statement to gain employment and one count of being an illegal immigrant in possession of a firearm. He was arrested by ICE last year and later resigned. Prosecutors are asking for a three-year prison sentence. Roberts will likely be deported to his home country of Guyana once his sentence is complete. His sentencing is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Iowa National Guard Soldiers Going To D.C. For America250
(Johnston, IA) — About 120 Iowa National Guard soldiers are being sent to Washington, D.C. in July leading up to the America250 celebration. The guard says they’ll work with the District of Columbia National Guard as well as federal, state, and local agencies. The Iowa soldiers’ mission will include security, traffic and crowd management, logistics and communications, and transportation assistance. Millions of people are expected to visit the nation’s capital to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Governor Reynolds Extends Proclamation Regarding Fuel Transportation
(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is extending a proclamation to increase access to motor fuels. The proclamation suspends certain regulatory provisions of the Iowa Code regarding work hours for drivers transporting diesel, gasoline or gasoline blends, ethanol, and biodiesel traveling into or within the state of Iowa. The proclamation will remain in effect through Thursday, June 11th.

(Des Moines, IA) — Free meal sites are opening across Iowa as many school districts approach their last day of classes. Through the Seamless Summer Option, free meals are available to all children and teens 18 years and under while school is out for the summer.
