(Anita, IA) — Ada Hansen will be running at next week’s Drake Relays — its just a matter of how many events. On Tuesday night, Hansen posted the 2nd fastest time in the state in 400 Hurdles and achieved the blue standard with a time of 1:03.41. The blue standard time is 1:04.50 and as of Wednesday, only six girls had achieved it. It is not the fastest time the Junior has ever ran in the 400 lows — she ran a 1:02.97 to win the state title last May. She had also ran on Monday and had a time of 1:05.21 — she says she just did some little things right on Tuesday to improve
She probably does not have to focus on the 100 Hurdles — currently Hansen ranks 15th in the state at 15.22 seconds which she ran in March at Central College. The meet was supposed to be indoors but the weather was so nice, they went outside. The Drake Relays take the top 32 times so while she has not achieved the blue standard of 15.10, she seems assured of making the field in that event.
The main focus might be the relays — CAM currently ranks 78th in the 4×100 and they take the top 96 and they are 35th in the Sprint Medley and the Drake Relays take the top 24 so currently are on the outside looking in. The same four girls run both relays — Brookeyln Steffen, Brylee Steffen, Ruthie Rich and Hansen and she says they can drop their times
Hansen says getting to the Drake Relays is a goal and she has not let breaks in the schedule slow her down
The Drake Relays is not the only thing on Hansen’s radar — preparing for the District meet on May 14
CAM will be at the AC/GC Relays on Thursday night — they host their own relays next Tuesday.
