(Council Bluffs) In an effort to reduce impaired and dangerous driving, law enforcement agencies conducted a multiagency traffic enforcement project on the evening of March 17th in Pottawattamie County.
Officers from the Council Bluffs Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, and Carter Lake Police Department focused their efforts between 5 p.m. and midnight, targeting unsafe driving behaviors linked to alcohol and other impairments.
The initiative comes after last year’s St. Patrick’s Day holiday in Iowa saw 148 crashes and five fatalities where impairment was a contributing factor.
During the enforcement operation, officers issued over 400 citations and made eight arrests.
Officials said several more traffic safety initiatives are planned in the coming months.
