(University Park, PA) — Penn St. usually has a knack of being a thorn in Iowa’s side no matter who the coach is. The Nittany Lions did it this time to Ben McCollum winning just their third Big Ten game 71-69 on Saturday.
Josh Reed scored a career high 25 points for Penn St. (12-17, 3-15). With the score tied at 69-69, Freddie Dilione drove the lane and was fouled with 1.5 seconds left and calmly hit both free throws to give the Nittany Lions the lead and Iowa could not manage a last second shot.
Cooper Koch led Iowa (20-9, 10-8) with 18 points including 5 of 7 from three point land while Bennett Stirtz had 16 points on 6 of 15 shooting. Kael Combs and Cam Manyawu each added 8.
Besides Reed, the Lions got 15 points from Dilione and Ivan Juric added 11.
