(Guthrie Co.) One person was transported to the hospital following a single-vehicle accident in Guthrie County Thursday afternoon.
The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office says the 45-year-old Jose Santana Rodriguez, of Des Moines, was driving a 2003 Honda Element southbound on Redwood Road when he lost control on the icy road and entered the west ditch. The vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side.
A 10-year-old male passenger was transported by Stuart EMS to Mercy Downtown with possible injuries/complaint of pain.
The Sheriff’s Office also reports, a vehicle struck the Guthrie Center Fire Department building Thursday afternoon, causing minor damage.
Authorities say the crash occurred at approximately 4:55 p.m. when 34-year-old Ryan Govlik, of Kansas City, Kansas, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse westbound on State Street. Investigators report Govlik lost traction while traveling down the hill and was unable to stop the vehicle.
The SUV went over the curb and into the corner of the fire station, damaging the building. Officials estimate the damage at $1,501.
No injuries were reported.
