(Des Moines) Snow totals across southwest, central, and northeast Iowa vary widely, according to the National Weather Service office in Des Moines.
Communities around Atlantic and areas farther east reported about 5.3 inches of snow. In Des Moines and Ames, snowfall totals ranged from 6 to 8 inches. Ardell in Massena is reporting three inches of snow.
At Des Moines International Airport, officials recorded 5.9 inches of snow. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service office in Johnston measured a higher total of 8.7 inches.
Northeast Iowa saw the heaviest snowfall. Reports indicate between 11 and 15 inches fell in and around Waterloo and Decorah.
The forecast calls for cooler temperatures over the next few days, with highs in the 20s. Conditions are expected to turn dry heading into the weekend.
