(Lewis) Iowa Department of Natural Resources fisheries biologist John Lorenzen says phones are ringing as cold weather has formed ice on area lakes and ponds.
Lorenzen says ice anglers began inquiring from all over, seeking information about ice conditions. Lorenzen says there is about 7 to 10 inches of ice locally. Lorenzen says he received a call from someone in Kansas City who plans to fish at Lake Anita this weekend.
Lorenzen advises people to use the DNR’s online fishing atlas to ensure a successful next fishing trip.
Lorenzen says bluegills and crappies can be caught around brush piles at Prairie Rose, ice fishermen are catching bluegills and crappies on the north arm at Lake Anita, and a family recently hauled in a bucket of bluegill off a tree pile just a few days ago at Meadow Lake. Lorenzen adds bluegill fishing at Littlefield Lake is good, and most people are catching a few perch.
