(San Francisco) An Atlantic woman crossed off an item from her bucket list.
Lisa (Pellett) Thibodeau joined over 500 other swimmers in the Alcatraz Open Swim, tackling the legendary waters of San Francisco Bay. Thibodeau completed the thrilling 1.4-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to Aquatic Park in San Francisco, braving the 63-degree water on Sunday morning.
The South End Rowing Club in San Francisco sponsors the event. Thibodeau noted that the swimmers ranged in age from 10 to 82 years.
She described the experience: “When you jump into the water, it kind of takes your breath away, and you might swallow a little saltwater, but you just start swimming as best you can.”
Lisa (Pellett) Thibodeau, 65, retired from her over four decades in the nursing field on July 26. She plans to make the most of her retirement years, with her next adventure, an African safari, scheduled for July 2026.
