(Oakland, IA) — The Riverside Bulldog softball team rolled past Lamoni 11-1 in the Class 1A, Region 6 quarterfinals — tonight they host Mount Ayr in the Region semis.
Against the Demons, Madison Kelley went 2-3; Adaline Martens went 2-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs; Sophia Fenner was 1-3 with 3 RBI and a run. Peyton Schafer only allowed 3 hits in the circle and has 126 strikeouts on the season with a 2.34 ERA. Bulldogs Head Coach Lacie Patterson says she is not a complete power pitcher and will give up a few hits but she finds a way to get the job done
Mount Ayr has been using two different pitchers — Junior Kensie Barnes threw in the first round against Bedford and has a 4.86 ERA with 11 starts while Sophomore Keely Wasteney has a 4.72 ERA with 9 starts. Whomever pitches for the Raiders will have to deal with a balanced line up that has power — Schafer, Kelley, Sydney Somers and Kayden Schnack each have 3 HR and Adaline Martens has 2 homers
Tonight, Patterson says the goal is to simply get out to a good start
Riverside is 22-3, Mount Ayr 11-9, game time in Oakland is 7pm
