(Villisca) Villisca Heritage Days will continue on Saturday, July 5. Alex Burton, President of the Community Betterment Club, states that the celebration—held annually during the Fourth of July holiday—has evolved over the years. Still, its core mission remains the same: to promote community and family.
The day will kick off with the Villisca Lions Club Pancake Breakfast, featuring “The Pancake Man” from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. The Heritage Days Grand Parade will follow this in downtown Villisca. After the parade, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Villisca Community Betterment Association’s community mural, titled “Be Kind Villisca,” which is located on the north wall of the Villisca Laundry Center.
Burton describes the mural as having a bright, colorful design featuring bees and flowers, created by a graduate of Villisca High School, who is currently working in homebuilding and architecture.
The afternoon will feature various activities for kids at Villisca City Park, including bathtub races and other engaging events. In the evening, the FFA will host a fundraiser supper, and snow cones will be available at the football field. A Foam Party will start at 7:30 p.m., followed by a street dance, a beer garden, and live music by Fritz, hosted by the No. 6 Saloon. The evening will conclude with fireworks at 10:00 p.m.
