(Glenwood) The Glenwood Rams (7-2) host the Spencer Tigers (6-3) in a first-round Class 4A football playoff game Friday night.
Glenwood Head Coach Cory Faust says hosting a first-round playoff game has not happened to often in program history. He says his players have a lot to be proud of.
Faust says the season hasn’t been without adversity, as the Rams have faced a tough schedule and dealt with key injuries. He says the team has stayed together through a couple of disappointing losses.
The Rams will face a large Spencer team that does not play many players both ways. Faust says the Tigers run a different offensive style, led by quarterback Larson Vulk, who has thrown for 556 yards and rushed for 645 yards.
Running back Otaniyi Temiloluaw has rushed for 1,031 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Faust says the game will be won in the trenches and points to his offensive linemen, who have played well throughout the season.
Injuries hit the Rams’ backfield during the final couple of weeks of the regular season. Faust says the team expects to be back to full strength Friday night.
Quarterback Haze Stephens is expected to return, along with running back Joe Leick. Stephens has rushed for 626 yards and thrown for 238 yards, while sophomore running back Leick has carried the ball 88 times for 590 yards.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night in Glenwood.
