(Oakland, IA) — Some schools will be taking cars to the State Track and Field meet. Some will be taking vans. In the case of Riverside, it will be buses, plural. The Bulldogs qualified 26 different events into this week’s meet — 13 boys and 13 girls. The boys got every relay into state except for the 4×200 and they start off the meet with the relay that might have the best chance to get to the top of the podium according to Head Coach Alex Oliver
At the Western Iowa conference meet, Dawson Henderson had a small injury so he switched events going into last week’s districts — he was going to try and qualify in the 400 Hurdles but instead ran in the 800 and won it last Thursday. He will race in that event on Saturday in addition to his relays. Oliver says that he is not doing Henderson a favor by running the 800
Other individual events for the Riverside boys include Cole Jeppesen in the 100 prelims; Maddox Knoke in the 400; Cruz Jaquez will join Dawson in the 800; Brody Henderson in the 1600; and Jaxon Gordon and Jett Rose will both be in the 110 Hurdle Prelims on Friday
The Riverside girls will send six relays to state (4×100; 4×200; 4×400; 4×800; Sprint Medley; and Distance Medley). Sophia Fenner and Sophia Taylor will throw the Shot Put on Thursday, Kayden Schnack will be on the Long Jump also on Thursday and Madison Kelley will throw the Discus on Friday. Arabella Singleton is in the 100 prelims on Thursday. Ayla Richardson is in the 100 Hurdles Prelims on Friday and Bentley Rone is in the 400 Hurdles finals on Friday.
