(Guthrie Center, IA) — The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors continue to look for options against the Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline. In Thursday’s meeting, the supervisors talked with Des Moines Attorney Tim Whipple about drafting a surveying permit ordinance that could be a technicality to resist Summit in their efforts to claim land from county residents to lay their CO2 pipeline. Kylee Lamb who is the Iowa Project Manager for Summit who was monitoring the meeting on Zoom reminded the Supervisors that any kind of ordinance will not make a difference
After some brief discussion by the supervisors, they went into closed session to talk about possible litigation and Whipple who is on retainer by the Supervisors talked about things they would address
Before passing any kind of ordinance, the Supervisors will have to have a public hearing on it and then vote to pass or reject — they have only been in the discussion stage so far.
In addition to pipeline issue, the Supervisors approved a formal contract with the Guthrie County Libraries Association and they approved contributions in the 2025-26 budget to Region XII, Midwest Partnership, Guthrie County Fair Board, Hungry Canyons, New Opportunities and Western Iowa Tourism that totaled nearly 110,000 dollars — none were increases from last year’s budget.
