Mrs. Lucille E. Wittrock, age 98, of Audubon, IA, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, IA.
Lucille Elizabeth Wittrock was born on March 27, 1926, on a farm near Rosselle, IA, to Fred Renze and Mary (Tunning) Renze. She spent her younger years in the Rosselle community and attended Holy Angels Catholic School. Following her formal education, she helped with baby cases in the area and for her family until she moved to Carroll. She then moved to Carroll and was employed as a housekeeper at St. Anthony Hospital.
Lucille and Fred Wittrock were united in marriage on March 31, 1948, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Carroll until moving to the home farm by Rosselle. Lucille was a homemaker and helped Fred with the farm chores. In 1954, they moved to Audubon County, where they purchased a farm. In 1997, they moved to their new home in Audubon.
Lucille was active in St Patrick’s Catholic Church, holding the position of president of Catholic Women, Eucharistic Minister, and quilting for the poor. She was also active in the VFW axillary. She was always busy and enjoyed making quilts for the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Lucille loved to dance, play cards, and ride the motorcycle with Fred. Travel was also a big part of her life; she traveled to many states, including Alaska. Lucille was always interested in family and enjoyed her family and visiting children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her great-great-grandchild.
Lucille is survived by her children, Danny and wife Yvonne of Hamlin, IA, Kenny and wife Pam of Carroll, lA, and Janice Vonnahme and husband Dave of Vail, IA; Sister, Regina Schultes of Carroll, lA. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Frederick Wittrock; her parents, Fred and Mary Renze; Siblings, Henry and Emily Renze, Leo and Lita Renze, Minnie and Walter Bauer, Loretta and John Schultes, Frank and Mildred Renze, Norbert and Gertrude Renze, and a brother in law Carl Schultes; and two grandchildren Christopher Wittrock and John Vonnahme.
Lucille’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, IA, with Fr. David Nkrumah as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Audubon. After the committal, a luncheon will take place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Hall in Audubon.
Public visitation with the family will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Audubon. The rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday.
