(Council Bluffs) The Charles E. Lakin Foundation recently announced that nominations are now open for the 2025 Outstanding Teacher Award. The award is open to teachers in rural districts within forty miles of Emerson, Iowa.
Devin Herrick, Supervisor of Communication at Green Hills, AEA, says the Charles E. Lakin Foundation started the award in 2008. She says Green Hills is a partner with natural relationships with school districts. Herrick says they go through the nominations and contact the winners of each of the four area school districts. The Charles E. Lakin Foundation handles the actual award.
Those wanting to nominate a teacher can access the Green Hills website at www.ghaea.org. The front page has a banner where people can submit their nominations.
This award was created to honor four local educators–two elementary teachers and two secondary teachers, whose efforts encourage and motivate students to come to school and who see teaching as a calling rather than a job.
Each winner will receive $10,000, with an additional $2,500 given to their school.
Teachers in rural districts within a 40-mile radius of Charles’s hometown of Emerson are eligible.
