(Anita, IA) — SWAT is sending four wrestlers to the girls state wrestling tournament this week — two seniors and two sophomores will hit the mat at the Extreme Arena in Coralville. Senior Ellen Gerlock is 26-5 and seeded 6th at 190 pounds. She has yet to see the podium but Head Coach Tyler South says she has the mentality to do it this year
Another senior is Jazz Christensen who is 36-9 and is seeded 7th at 100 pounds and South she is on a mission to get to the podium
The two sophomores are Destiny Fry who is 32-12 and seeded 14th at 120 pounds who face a three seed Grace Storjohann of Aplington Parkersburg in the first round and Bailey Lillard who is 27-4 and seeded 7th at 145 and has overcome some illness to get to state. Three of the four girls will be favorites in the first round but none of them will be the favorite in the 2nd round barring upsets so they will have to be their best to get a medal
SWAT will be wrestling in the first round starting at 4:30 on Thursday, we’ll have coverage on KSOM.
