(Cass/Audubon Co) The Cass County Board of Supervisors held a joint public hearing with the Audubon County Board of Supervisors this morning to consider vacating a section of 350th Street/Akron Road that turns north into Audubon County, known as Mockingbird Avenue.
This is a dirt road just west of the tree in the middle of the road. Cass County Engineer Trent Wolken said the main reason for wanting to vacate the road is due to the bridge over Troublesome Creek that has been recommended for closure for a couple of years. Neither Cass County nor Audubon County wants to pay the cost to replace that bridge.
The Audubon County Board of Supervisors stated that they were okay with vacating the road as stated in the resolution. The Cass County Board of Supervisors received comments from two landowners, McDermott and Kilworth, who had differing opinions on where the road should be vacated. Following a lengthy conversation, the Supervisors made a voice vote…
The Supervisors will approve an official resolution with the legal description of the road vacation during their next meeting.
In other activity, the Supervisors approved 28E Mutual Aid Agreements between Cass County and the cities of Anita and Griswold to provide law enforcement. They approved hiring Mandy Parks as Sheriff’s Assistant at $22 per hour effective February 10th. The board approved the Iowa DOT Federal-Aid Agreement to develop plans for a county highway bridge project southeast of Griswold on 620th Street. The low bid from Gus Construction was approved for a box culvert east of Cumberland. The low bid from Manatt’s was approved for a bridge project south of the landfill. And, the low bid from Henningsen Construction was approved the the N28 resurfacing project.
