(Atlantic) Atlantic senior Jarrett Hansen has officially signed to play football this fall for Dordt College in Sioux Center. Surrounded by his family and coaches, he committed to join the Defenders on Thursday. Hansen expressed that when he visited the campus, he immediately knew it was the right fit for him for a variety of reasons.
He credits both the community and the coaching staff for his development as an athlete, and a person.
During his senior season, Hansen began as a wide receiver but was later moved to defensive back due to injuries within the defensive backfield. Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer noted that Jarrett made a selfless decision to switch positions to help the team.
Jarrett will be recruited as a defensive back, and Assistant Coach Nathan Kabongo, who will serve as his position coach, is eager to have him join the team.
Hansen’s achievements include being named a 1st Team All-District Wide Receiver, 1st Team All-District Cornerback, All-Area Defensive Captain, and earning All-Academic honors. He averaged 19.8 yards per catch, recorded three interceptions, and recovered one fumble for a touchdown. Jarrett is the son of Jean and Dave Hansen from Atlantic, and he plans to study agriculture at Dordt College.
