(Atlantic) Lewis Central narrowly defeated Atlantic 35-34 in a dramatic triangular wrestling meet at Atlantic on Thursday. In other matchups, the Titans dominated Kuemper 65-12, while Atlantic triumphed over the Knights 53-21.
The match began with Lewis Central taking a quick 9-0 lead. Carter Schorsch (132) earned a 10-1 major decision victory, followed by Jaxon Brewer (138), who secured a win by fall.
Atlantic responded with a strong streak, winning four consecutive matches. Aiden Smith (144) claimed a 13-1 major decision, while Kalvin Hayes (150) raced out to a 14-0 lead, eventually securing an 18-4 major decision. Jayden Harter (157) followed with a technical fall, and Dreven Smith (165) added a 10-6 decision, putting the Trojans ahead 16-9.
Lewis Central quickly regained control with a series of victories, taking a 25-16 lead. Chance Chappell (175) and Joseph Monge (215) each won by fall, while Paxton Blanchard (190) added a major decision.
The Trojans answered with two critical wins to pull ahead 28-25. Evan Sorensen (285) and Keaton Schroeder (106) both won by forfeit, putting Atlantic back in the lead.
However, Lewis Central sealed the win with two straight victories. Zander Manz (113) won by major decision, and Westin Porter (120) added a fall, extending the lead to 35-28. Landon Hagen (126) of Atlantic secured the final win by forfeit, but still Lewis Central triumphed 35-34.
