(Anita) On November 5, the CAM Community School’s $22.5 million bond referendum failed 874 no votes to 697 yes. The proposed measure was a comprehensive project that included constructing a new classroom addition to the high school and extensive renovations to the existing building. Additionally, the proposed measure reduced the current two-campus district to one campus in Anita.
The next issue is what is next for the district. CAM Schools Superintendent Paul Croghan and the school board discussed the next steps at Monday’s meeting.
Croghan says some of the projects needing to be addressed include leaky roofs, transportation, technology, outside tuckpointing, windows, doors, and secure entrances. He says some projects may not get addressed because of other priorities.
The district’s certified enrollment is down 28 students due to a large graduating class and more minor kindergarten students. The Connection Academy has 243 students; however, the district does not get all the revenue from this.
