(Audubon) Audubon achieved an impressive victory over Woodbine, winning 42-18 in an 8-player round of sixteen playoff game on Friday. With this win, the Wheelers maintained their perfect record, improving to 10-0. The team showcased a strong performance, accumulating 308 yards of offense—77 yards through the air and 231 yards on the ground. Additionally, Audubon intercepted four passes and recovered a botched snap in the end zone.
It appeared the contest would be a shootout early, with each team scoring on its’ initial possessions. Aaron Olsen raced 31 yards to paydirt two minutes, and twenty-five gone in the first quarter. Olsen’s TD run capped a six-play 65-yard opening drive. The try for two failed, giving the Wheelers a 6-0 advantage. The Tigers responded quickly to Micah Moore’s short run. Audubon took control of the game with an impressive 28 consecutive points. Wheeler’s quarterback, Carson Wessel, connected with Olsen for a 29-yard touchdown pass, followed by Ely Jorgensen and Colton Hansen’s recovery of a botched snap in the end zone during a Woodbine punt, which brought the score to 20-6 midway through the first quarter. The home team extended its lead when Wessel threw a pass into the end zone that tight end Brody Weber caught, increasing the score to 26-6 early in the second quarter. Wessel then showcased his speed with a 58-yard touchdown run, and he converted a two-point attempt with a pass to Weber, giving the Wheelers a commanding 34-6 lead with 5:33 remaining in the first half. Woodbine answered briefly when quarterback Brody Prior launched a 62-yard pass to Landon Blum. The extra point failed, leaving the score at 34-12 at halftime.

The contest turned into a defensive battle in the third quarter, with neither team scoring. The fourth quarter featured an exchange of scores. Wessel scored on a one-yard plunge. Pryor stroked a touchdown pass to Dillon Reed, moving the score to 42-18, which became the eventual final count of the night.
Coach Birks says the team had an outstanding week of practice and prep.
The win became a special night for Coach Birks, marking his 100th career victory.
The Wheelers travel to Remsen, St. Mary’s, in a quarterfinal on Thursday, November 7. Woodbine finishes with an 8-2 record. We will have the broadcast on 96.5 F.M.
