(Red Oak) At Tuesday’s regular meeting, the Montgomery County Supervisors drew lots and approved the establishment of a County Compensation Board. The Iowa legislature passed a bill that allows the Board to decide whether to have one. If they choose not to, the Board will act as the Compensation Board.
In Iowa, the County Compensation Board consists of seven county residents. The Board of Supervisors appoints two members, and the elected officials, Treasurer, Auditor, Sheriff, Recorder, and Attorney, appoint one representative to the Board. The boarBoardsupervisors appoints two representatives for the seven-member board. Robinson read the resolution stating the seven appointed representatives must be residents of Montgomery County.
During the meeting, the Supervisors drew lots for the initial staggered terms of the compensation board representatives. The representatives for the Treasurer, Sheriff, Auditor, and Recorder serve an initial four-year term, and the representatives for the Supervisors and the Attorney must serve an initial term of two years.
The resolution is retroactive from July 31, 2024.
The elected officials must submit their representative appointments to the board supervisors by October 10. The compensation boards meet annually to make salary recommendations for elected officials in their respective counties.
