(Audubon, IA) — Audubon has been rolling so far this season and the last thing they want is for a rival to come in and derail things. Exira EHK will try to do exactly that as the Spartans drive north Highway 71 for the short 10 miles to face the 6th ranked Wheelers tonight, coverage on KSOM.
Junior QB Carson Wessel has stood out for Audubon the first two games with 374 yards rushing on 54 carries, averaging 7 yards a carry and scoring 6 touchdowns. Wesel moved into the starting QB spot in the pre-season as Head Coach Sean Birks moved last year’s quarterback Aaron Olsen to the starting tailback position. Olsen admits he was hesitant at first
Audubon’s defense has been overshadowed by how many points the Wheelers have put on the board. Junior LB Austin Christensen leads with 15.5 tackles and 2 INT; Senior CB Adam Obrecht has 13 tackles and 2 INT and Sophomore LB Karter Obermeier has 11.5 tackles. Olsen starts at the safety spot and he has already noticed an improvement from last year
Exira EHK switched quarterbacks last week, going from Josten Kilworth to Bryce Bradham but Olsen says that hasn’t changed how they play
The Spartans lost 34-0 to Ar-We-Va in week one so Head Coach Drew Buckoldt moved Bradham into the starting QB spot and the Junior speedster responded with 117 yards rushing and 2 TD’s in a come from behind 30-22 win over Stanton. Buckholt says Bradham is still uncomfortable throwing but he moved the team
Audubon has won the last five meetings between these two teams and 7 of their last 8. The last win for the Spartans was 34-28 in 2018. In order to avoid another loss to their rivals and pull the upset Buckholdt needs several things to happen
1-1 Exira EHK visits 2-0 Audubon tonight. Coverage on 96.5 FM KSOM, Scouting Report at 5, In the Huddle at 5:15, Pre Game 6:30, Kickoff 7 pm.
