(Harlan) The Harlan City Council addressed five business items at the Tuesday meeting, including a revision to the travel reimbursement policy. Harlan City Administrator Gene Gettys explained that the update was necessary due to inflation since the last revision 2021.
According to the resolution, the City will pay for lodging, parking, and mileage (at the current standard Internal Revenue Service rate). The meal reimbursements are $14.00 for breakfast, $18.00 for lunch, and $22.00 for dinner. The City will not pay for Snacks, tobacco or alcoholic beverages, personal entertainment, or long-distance phone calls.
In other business:
*The City Council approved a resolution approving the contract and bonds by Municipal Pipe Tool Company of Hudson, Iowa, for constructing the “2024 Sanitary” Sewer Rehabilitation Project.” Harlan Administrator Gene Gettys says the final step is executing the sewer lining project. He says the preconstruction date is undetermined at this time.
*The City Council reviewed and approved the completion of the HHPC Downtown Upper Story and Façade grant and the award request for 622 Market Street for $5,500.00. Gene Gettys says the post-construction review is complete. The $5,500.00 is primarily for new doors and windows.
*The Harlan City Council approved a permit to close Morse Avenue from Pine Street to Grand Avenue for the Shelby County Historical Museum Show and Shine Show during the Sock Hop event.
*The City Council approved September 17 (the Next City Council Meeting) as the Public Hearing regarding a proposal to vacate the city-owned property.
