(Iowa City, IA) – Iowa Hawkeye track star Austin West has been named to CSC Academic All-American First-Team Honors. This marks the first men’s Academic All-American honor for Iowa since 2012.
West joins alongside women’s athlete Mariel Bruxvoort who was named to Academic All-American Third Team honors on Tuesday. The Iowa City native has represented his hometown with six All-American honors throughout his career at Iowa while earning first-team honors in the indoor heptathlon with a sixth-place finish in the nationals. Throughout the outdoor season, he was an NCAA decathlon qualifier and was forced to withdraw due to an injury.
While dealing with an injury, West recovered and earned sixth place in the decathlon at the U.S. Olympic Trials. He previously was a first-team All-American back in the 2022 and 2023 seasons while earning second-team honors in the heptathlon from 2021-23.
