(Anita, IA) – The CAM Cougars continue on in postseason play after defeating Riverside last week with a walk-off single to capture an 8-7 win over the Bulldogs. Despite having five errors in the game, the Cougars relied on pitchers Brody Paulsen and Lukas James for a combined seven strikeouts and just six combined hits allowed in the game. CAM’s bats also continued rolling as the Cougars were able to capture multiple key hits in the ballgame.
One aspect that led to a few errors in the game was Riverside’s ability to play small ball. The Bulldogs knocked down a few key bunts that kept CAM on their toes as they’ll be ready for anything when continuing in postseason action. If the defense is all on the same page, the errors will start to fade away with the team in sync.
It all starts at the plate in this competition tonight for CAM. Most of CAM’s starters have been hitting over .300 this season including Brayden Chester and Jack Follmann who are hitting over .400 this year and earned some key hits in the last game against Riverside.
CAM will take the long bus drive north to Moville tonight (July 9th) to take on Woodbury Central for district play. The Wildcats currently sit with a 19-7 record and have fallen to a common opponent of Coon Rapids-Bayard and each beat Ar-We-Va in similar fashions. Coach Ticknor is looking for efficiency on the mound and batters putting the ball in play. If CAM plays their style of baseball, the game will take care of itself.
Postseason baseball makes or breaks the rest of your season. Coach Ticknor has postseason experience as a player and a coach at CAM High School and understands the stakes when it comes to district play. You never know what is going to happen in the postseason, which only makes it more enjoyable.
The Cougars take on Woodbury Central tonight in Moville with the opening pitch at 7:00 p.m. KSOM 96.5 will be broadcasting live with a pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
