(Lincoln, NE) – While Nebraska built a solid core for their coaching staff in the offseason, one piece of the core has branched off. Nebraska assistant coach Evan Cooper has officially resigned from his position.
Cooper served as the team’s secondary coach and defensive pass game coordinator for the Huskers. The former coach of the Carolina Panthers has now stepped away due to personal reasons. He was just entering his second season to work alongside Matt Rhule after having previously played for Rhule at Temple and even coached with Rhule when he was with the Carolina Panthers.
The former coach had an extensive background as a player and was a big key in the development of secondary defenses, especially with the cornerbacks. He was also a valuable recruiter for multiple teams including Baylor and looked to be a big piece in helping the Huskers in the coming seasons.
Cooper helped lead the Huskers to their best statistical season since joining the Big Ten with their secondary defense. They limited opponents to 6.1 yards per passing attempt which ranked the defense in the top ten on a national level.
