(Iowa City, IA) – University of Iowa’s head women’s basketball coach, Jan Jensen, has announced the addition of Randi Henderson and Sean Sullivan to the coaching staff. Both Henderson and Sullivan are Iowa alumni. Henderson will serve as an assistant coach, and Sullivan will take on the role of assistant coach and general manager.
Randi Henderson joins Iowa after a successful seven-year tenure as the head women’s basketball coach at Washington University. Henderson’s teams achieved a 103-54 record, with four NCAA Tournament appearances. Notably, she led the Bears to the University Athletic Association (UAA) title in the 2018-19 season, finishing with a 13-1 conference record and advancing to the NCAA Tournament sectional finals. Her efforts earned her the Central Region Coach of the Year by D3hoops.com and the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year award.
Before her time at WashU, Henderson spent two years as an assistant coach at Charlotte, where she helped the 49ers to a 19-11 record and a top-four finish in the Conference USA Championship. She also had a successful nine-year stint as the head coach at Coe College, achieving three 20-plus win seasons and leading the team to the NCAA Sectional Semifinals in 2010-11. Henderson was recognized as a two-time IIAC Coach of the Year and the WBCA West Region Coach of the Year. Henderson’s husband also formally played for the Iowa men’s basketball team.
Sean Sullivan previously served as the director of player personnel, development, and recruiting operations at North Carolina. He joins the Iowa staff as an assistant coach/general manager. In his third year with the Tar Heels, his role expanded to include assistant coaching responsibilities. Sullivan has also worked as the director of video for Pitt’s women’s basketball program and held a similar role at Penn State.
As an undergraduate at Iowa, Sullivan was a women’s basketball manager for four years before becoming the team’s video coordinator. He also spent a summer as a video coordinator for USA Basketball, contributing to the women’s squad that won silver at the 2015 Pan Am Games. Sullivan now returns to the school that originally gave him a start in the college basketball realm.
