(Des Moines, IA) A proposal to reinstate the death penalty for people convicted of first-degree murder in the death of a law enforcement officer is moving forward in the Iowa Senate.
“I know there is a lot of conversation about this, but it doesn’t deter anybody,” said Scott County Republican Senator Scott Webster. “The closure that parents, wife, husband, or kids need should also be considered.”
The death penalty in Iowa was abolished in 1965 at the state level. However, the death penalty still exists on the Federal level.
Democratic Senator Tony Bisignano from Polk County doesn’t support the death penalty.
