(Des Moines) The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch for a handful of counties in extreme southwest Iowa from Thursday afternoon to Friday afternoon. The counties in the watch area include Harrison, Shelby, Pottawattamie, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont, and Page.
Forecasters say heavy snow is possible with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour, and snow accumulations between four and seven inches are possible.
Plan on slippery road conditions in the watch area on Thursday and Friday.
This area is also part of a Wind Chill Watch for dangerously cold wind chills as low as 40 below zero. The watch is in effect from Friday evening through Tuesday morning.
