(Griswold) Griswold School’s shared Superintendent, Dave Henrichs, says that the tragic shooting incident that occurred on Thursday at Perry High School, whether it is next door or out of state, brings with it the realization that it can happen anywhere.
enrichs says his school administrators have a staff meeting next week during personal development to review the district’s policies and procedures in case an incident occurs, like at Perry on Thursday. Henrichs says they subscribe to the A.L.I.C.E. system, an acronym for Alert-Lockdown-Inform-Counter-Evacuate.
Dave Henrichs says those options include run, fight, flight, run, hide, throw things, or whatever needs to be done to be safe. Henrichs says this is frequently reviewed with both students and staff.
Five survivors of the Perry school shooting on Thursday are hospitalized, and a sixth grader was killed. Seventeen-year-old Perry High School student Dylan Butler fired shots around 7:30 a.m., killing a sixth-grader and injuring four students and the school principal, Dan Marburger. One victim is in critical condition. In contrast, four others are in stable condition. Police found Butler dead with an evident self-imposed gunshot wound and a bomb that officers were able to disarm. The incident is still being investigated.
