(Des Moines) The Des Moines airport authorities are waiting to see if its passenger record will be broken. In 2019, about two point nine two million passengers were recorded. In 2023, the airport could see nearly 3 million.
According to reports, the growth could be from the rise in vacation travel and the fact Allegiant Airlines opened service at the Des Moines International Airport on July 1, 2021, offering non-stop flights to some cities along the West Coast.
Last fall, airport authorities broke ground for a new terminal. The County approved a $350 million bond referendum to expand the facility. The project would add a new terminal.
The airport is a 2,600-acre campus with two runways, 46 buildings, and seven parking facilities, with airline service from American, Allegiant, Frontier, Southwest, and United.
The final number will be announced on January 10th.
