(Pottawattamie Co) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors this (Tuesday) morning approved the second consideration of an ordinance to amend Chapter 8 “Zoning Ordinance” by adding a definition of Agricultural Experiences and amending Agriculture Uses Exempt Section.
Matt Wyant, Director of Planning and Development, said they are repealing the current definition of Agriculture and adding a new definition, which is the use of land for agricultural purposes, as well as adding a definition for Agricultural Experiences.
Wyant addressed some misconceptions and clarified the exemptions. So, what does Farm Exempt mean and what are these farms exempt from?
Wyant said Agricultural Exemption – Ag Experiences is new to State Code but it is not new to Pottawattamie County.
Wyant noted, from 2017 to 2023, they have processed 193 agriculture exemption requests and out of those 193, only four have been denied.
Wyant said overall they are going to continue to support ag producers of all sizes within the regulations that are set out before them.
