(Griswold, IA) – Griswold has now won back-to-back games against both Sidney and Hamburg as they beat the Wildcats 45-38. The team looked flat in the beginning but continued to work hard and let the shots go. The Tigers were led by Peyton Cook in the game with 19 points as he continued to drive to the hoop and win the battle with his contested shots.
Head coach Matt Spunangule emphasized that their cold start may have helped them in the end as they overcame their adversity and pushed the ball to the hoop. At halftime, he told his kids to continue to take the open looks and not worry about what they have missed, but rather what they will make. Wayne Gretzky said it best, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Griswold took that to heart and continued their shooting run all night.
One thing that has made Griswold successful so far has been their team chemistry. This chemistry has helped to make the Tigers get better in ball movement, offensive momentum, and defensive intensity this year. The chemistry is so strong that it led the Tigers to their first win over Sidney for the first time since 2007 as they are finally turning the page on a new era of Tiger basketball.
On Thursday, Griswold will be taking on Missouri Valley, who is coming off a loss to a very good Riverside team. The Big Reds are led by Brody Langer with 18.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season. Missouri Valley also features two high-caliber players Dane Janssen and Layton Maasen with 17 and 14 points respectively. Thursday will mark a challenge for the Tigers on their home court.
Griswold takes on Missouri Valley this Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. KSOM 96.5 will be live with Zach Collins and Austin West on the call while also streaming live on Western Iowa Today TV powered by Nishnanet. The pregame show will follow the conclusion of the girl’s game around 7:15 p.m.
