(Des Moines) Finding bald eagles is becoming a common occurrence in Iowa. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources mid-winter eagle count will start in two weeks. DNR staff and volunteers will travel along rivers across Iowa to count each bald eagle they see. However, with many giant cottonwood trees removed near the Des Moines River, eagle sightings may decrease compared to last year. The trees were a hot spot for the birds. Last year, they recorded nearly three thousand, which the DNR says is a lot.
