(Atlantic) Kuemper’s third-quarter run leads to a 72-54 win over Atlantic in Hawkeye Ten Conference boys’ basketball on Tuesday at Atlantic. The Knights rattled the scoreboard with 27-third quarter points while holding the Trojans to six. Michael Kasperbauer led the third quarter scoring barrage with 12 points.
The Trojans rallied back from a 15-6 first-quarter deficit with a 10-2 run to close the gap to 20-16 at the end of the first quarter. Colton Rasmussen led the team with 16 points and splashed down two three-point shots and a two-point make to lead the home team. The Trojans carried their solid play into the second quarter with five bombs from beyond the arc. Nolan Waters, Tyrell Williams, Rasmussen (2), and Gavin McLaren each had a long-range bullseye to outscore the Knights 20-19 in the second, trailing 39-36 at the break.

The Knights created points off turnovers in the third quarter, and five players joined in on the party; besides Kasperbaurers 12, Kanne drained a three and two more from inside the arc. Tregan Beiter threw in three points, Brock Badding three, and Carter Putney had a bucket. Kasperbaurer finished the night with 22 points, Kanne with 16, and Beiter with 14. Carter Putney and Brock Badding each scored eight, and D.J. Vonnahme five.
Colton Rasmussen led the Trojans with 16 points, Gavin McLaren, 15, Nolan Waters and Tyrell Williams, eight, Hudson McLaren, 5, and Brock Henderson scored two.
The Trojans host Lewis Central on Friday. Coach Franken says it will be a slower-paced contest.
