(Ames, IA) – The Cyclones had their toughest test yet in tonight’s game against Iowa and played the best they have yet all season. Iowa State was locked in from the beginning and was able to take a 90-65 win in men’s basketball action.
Iowa State held a 32-point lead at one point in the game while the Cyclones are now 9-8 in the Cy-Hawk series with four more events to go. Keshon Gilbert led the Cyclones in scoring with 25 points which ties his career high and dished off six assists. Robert Jones scored 18 points and six rebounds while Tre King knocked in 17 points and five rebounds in the game. Tamin Lipsey was able to put down 11 points seven rebounds and six assists.
On the opposite end, Iowa was led by Payton Sandfort with 14 points and six rebounds in the game. Dasonte Bowen knocked in 13 points and went perfect at the charity stripe as he went 7-7. Freshman Owen Freeman was held to 11 points which mostly game in the second half. Iowa’s typical leading scorer Ben Krikke was held to just eight points in the game. The Cyclones also held Iowa to just 18.2% from the field in the second half.
Iowa State earned its 600th win in Hilton Coliseum as T.J. Otzelberger earned his second win in the Cy-Hawk series as he is now 2-1 in the series against Iowa. The Cyclone’s 25-point victory was the largest by Iowa State ever in the Cy-Hawk series for a new school record.
The Cyclones return back to action this Sunday, December 10th when they take on Prairie View A&M at noon.
