(Audubon) The Audubon County Board of Supervisors is putting the long-awaited Courthouse HVAC project into motion. On November 30, the supervisors approved the project to Graphite Construction without approving their low bid of $2.8 million because it came in 20 percent higher than the engineer’s estimate.
Audubon County Supervisor Chairman Doug Sorensen says that for the past several weeks, they have been looking at scaling back this project to fit the budget. Sorensen says in the meantime, they have figured out a funding mechanism after visiting with legal consultant John Danos.
Sorensen says the county is using a general fund loan agreement that can be utilized without a public referendum. This type of loan agreement does require a 30-day comment period.
Sorensen says Susan Gerlach with PSM in Des Moines thinks the CCountycan gets a bank loan for five percent or less, which would be cheaper than going with a bond and all of the additional costs that go along with it.
