(Clarinda) Clarinda held off Atlantic’s fourth-quarter rally to win 58-53 at Atlantic on Tuesday.
The Cardinals blew open a 15-14 first-quarter lead with 15 second-quarter points while holding the home team to six for a 30-20 halftime advantage. Creighton Tuzzio, Clarinda’s 6’7 post player, was a tough guard for the Trojans. The senior post player battled the boards in the second stanza, draining three of four free throws and knocking down two field goals to lead the visitors to the ten-point halftime advantage.
The Trojans battled back in the second half, trimming the lead to one several times. Nolan Waters nailed three threes in the second half, and Colton Rasmussen scored ten of 20 in the final two quarters.
Atlantic outscored the Cardinals 17-13 in the third quarter and 16-15 in the final eight; however, Creighton Tuzzio, Clarinda’s 6’7 Post Player, kept the Trojans at arms’ length in the final stanza with four free throws and a bomb from beyond the three-point line.
Besides Rasmussen’s 20 points, Gavin McLaren ended the game with 15, Nolan Waters with 10, Tyrell Williams with 4, Brock Henderson with 2, and Hudson McLaren with 2.
