(Lewis) The long wait is over for an expected 100,000-plus deer hunters; the first of the shotgun deer seasons started on Saturday and runs through December 6. Bryan Hayes with the DNR in Lewis says over time, the type of firearms legal to use during the gun season has expanded.
Hayes says the method of hunting deer is split 50/50 between those who drive deer using drivers, posters, and the sit-and-wait method.
Hayes’ says cell phones and two-way radios are illegal.
Hunters are required to report their harvest by midnight on the day after it was tagged before taking it to a locker. Harvests can be reported online at iowadnr.gov, on the Go Outdoors Iowa app, and by calling the phone number on the tag.
