Marvin Dean Lange, the son of Theodore and Thelma (Hansen) Lange, was born May 19, 1933, at his parents’ home in Shelby County, Iowa, and died November 8, 2023, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 5 months, and 20 days.
Marvin was baptized and confirmed in the Danish Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa. He attended rural schools near Elk Horn, Iowa then helped on the family farm. Marvin was inducted into the U.S. Army on April 1, 1953. During his tour of duty, he served with the 1st Division, 3rd Battalion Infantry known as the “Big Red One” in Germany. He was honorably discharged on March 17, 1955, then returned to Audubon and operated a commercial feed grinder.
On May 19, 1956, he was united in marriage to Mary Alice Murray at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. They were blessed with four children Gary, Randy, Jim, and Nancy. They operated the family farm which they later purchased. They grew row crops and raised livestock until he semi-retired and moved into Audubon in 1999. During retirement, he enjoyed having coffee with his friends. Later they moved to the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa. Mary Alice died March 5, 2023.
Marvin was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon and served as an usher. He was a member of Dale Christensen Post #4119, V.F.W. Audubon, Iowa, and was part of the Graveside Military Honors at the cemeteries for many years. He enjoyed playing cards and having coffee with his friends.
Preceding him in death was his wife Mary Alice Lange; his grandson Ryan Lange; his parents; and his brother Gordon Lange.
Survivors include his children Gary Lange and Karen Beyer of Manassas, Virginia, Randy and wife Natalie Lange of Audubon, Iowa, Jim and wife Becky Lange of Hamlin, Iowa, and Nancy and husband Rodney Hansen of Audubon, Iowa; his 7 grandchildren: Jessica and husband Joe Collier of Kansas City, Missouri, Lindy and husband Kurt Ferguson of Murray, Nebraska, Shane and wife Molly Lange of Audubon, Iowa, Kevin and wife Kim Lange of Colfax, Iowa, Kelsi and husband Wyatt Christensen of Hamlin, Iowa, Brandon Hansen and Brianna Lux of Sioux City. Iowa, and Garrett Hansen of Audubon, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Marcia and husband Ken Snyder of Audubon, Iowa and Phyllis and husband Jens Bruun of Audubon, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be a Graveside Service with military honors on November 17, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa with Pastor Dan Beattie officiating. The casket bearers will be Joe Collier, Kevin Lange, Wyatt Christensen, Brandon Hansen, Garrett Hansen, Shane Lange, and Kurt Ferguson. Later, the family will greet friends on Friday afternoon November 17, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Audubon Recreation Center in Audubon, Iowa for food and fellowship.
